In the MIDST of MSIDT

BLOG POST ASSIGNMENT IDT 545:

Why did you select the MSIDT program at CSUF? I have always had an strong interest in technology, and would definitely consider myself a "techie", I currently work in higher education, and I was considering pursing a degree in Educational Technology, but I just wasn't sure if Educational Technology was creative enough for me. I am a creative individual and love to draw and paint in my spare time, as well as create graphic design projects for myself, friends and family. I continued my researching on Educational Technology programs when I came across the field of Instructional Design. I thought to myself I get to use my design skills, love for technology, and interests and knowledge of higher education, and it's 100% online, and cheaper than all the other programs I have researched...SOLD!

What are two topics that you learned about in your MSIDT program (so far) that support your ID career? Learning Theory: Sure I can design something professional looking and entertaining, but will it actually serve a purpose? Learning about learning theory and whats behind it was a very beneficial experience and reassuring that my eLearning will not just look good, but that it will be effective as well.

Online Collaboration: I have really enjoyed online collaboration with my cohort in the forms of discussion boards, as well as working in groups. Working in online groups has forced us to remain up to date with the online collaboration tools out on the market. This will be useful in the future as in instructional designer, because not all jobs are going to be local.
