In the past, designers would put an emphasis on flashy illustrations to get the users attention, now times have shifted to a more simplistic and minimalist approach, enter flat design. Flat design is a style of interface design emphasizing minimum use of stylistic elements that give the illusion of three dimensions (such as the use of drop shadows, gradients or textures) and is focused on a minimalist use of simple elements, typography and flat colors. So why is something so simple becoming so popular? Simple images get the message across quicker that more detailed illustrations. Icons can indicate universal actions or purposes so that everyone can easily understand them. So for your next design project, try a more simplistic approach with flat design tactics.
